9.4.09. Friday/viernes: BAMBULA!
Our good friend Rafael Zapata aka ‘Papo’ is often on the same wavelength as us. He’s an avid supporter of Afro-Caribbean studies, culture, politics, arts, music, etc. Let’s just say he’s in ‘the loop’. When he told us of his latest event, and asked us to be co-sponsors of the event, we couldn’t refuse. He’s arranged for the NYC-based Afro-Latino roots group, BAMBULA, to perform en el barrio!
Also performing that night, Philadelphia-by-way-of-Loiza bomba dance company, LA FAMILIA ROJAS!
We are so ready for a night of bomba, plena, palo, and so many other rhythms that make us dance all night.
BAMBULA performing LIVE!
8 PM SHARP!
Mis Viejos Restaurant, Lehigh & Mascher Sts.
El Barrio, North Philadelphia

Okay you might be saying: “That’s it?? only 2 events?”
No te preocupes - we got more stuff in the pipeline.
Surely you must save the date for Friday 9.18’s closeout of PERSPECTIVAS, as we present the one and only mindblowing experience called CELIA THE QUEEN. It’s an AMLA fundraiser too, so bring your dancing shoes!
The Philadelphia Puerto Rican Day Parade is here Sunday 9.27.09. Afrotaino Productions will definitely be in the house!
Also save that date for all sorts of crazy post-parade celebrations happening that night. Anything from celebrity cameos, salsa/reggaeton/mambo-drenched soundsystems, late night drum & dance bombazos to… otras cositas.
Stay tuned – more to come!
